Feeling Blue

Chanel’s Blue Sating nailpolish is THE color to be wearing this Fall and Winter.  Last year dark purples and black were the 2 colors that were seen on fashionista’s fingers everywhere.   Skip the lighter blues you may find at the drug store, and opt for the deeper shades that don’t scream “I have blue nails!”  From afar it should not be apparent exactly what color your nails are.  OPI also has a new dark blue polish available.

Pretty in Plaid

Marc by Marc JacobsDowntown Manhattan hipsters, and Los Feliz idie rockers, are all wearing a similar pattern this Fall…Plaid.  The streets of Silverlake are starting to look a bit more like Seattle circa 1991.  Fortunately, the plaid look is coming back with a stylish vengeance, rather than in a sloppy grunge style.  Plaid dresses are being paired with Jimmy Choo ankle boots, and plaid shirts are worn with black skinny jeans on both men and women.  This trend is available to people with all budgets.  Thrift stores are a great, and “green”, place to purchase plaid items.  Urban Outfitters has many chic plaid pieces that are fitted and stylish for under $100.  Alexander McQueen takes on plaid this season in a gorgeous red and black plaid dress that retails for over $5,000.  Whatever your budget may be, plaid is easily accessible, versatile, and the perfect pattern for you this Fall.

Arrivederci Valentino!!!

Valentino Garavani has been designing fine fashions for the world’s elite for over 45 years, and has dressed movie stars, socialites, and royals around the world.  The Italian designer finished his incredible career this week with a final fashion show at the Musée Rodin in Paris on Wednesday, displaying his Spring/Summer 2008 haute couture line.  Supermodels, celebrities, and his loyal clients attended the show which featured his stunning red gowns.

Valentino gained worldwide fame, and became a household name, when Jackie Kennedy hired him to design her a new wardrobe following the death of her husband, President John F. Kennedy.  His couture only label was sold to HdP in 1998 for an estimated $300 million.  Valentino has been known for his flamboyant lifestyle and high living.  His presence will certainly be missed in the fashion world, but he is leaving at the top of his game.  Bravo!

The Valentino line will now be designed by former Gucci designer Alessandra Facchinetti.
